  • Department is carrying out mineral investigations, identification of mineral bearing areas, preparation of maps etc.
  • As per the State Reorganization Act, 2014, the State Government taken up exploration activity in coordination with Geological Survey of India for assessing reserves of Iron Ore deposit in the State of Telangana for establishment of integrated Steel Plant.
  • With the Priorities of newly emerged Telangana State, the State Government is giving special emphasis on resource audit of existing mineral deposits in the State.

Invistigation And Exploration

  • As the part of preparedness for implementation of MMDR Amendment Act, 2015, the State Govt. proposed for reservation of all the Iron Ore blocks to TSMDC to honour the commitment of sustained supply for the integrated steel plant to be established by SAIL.
  • The GSI made 11 Blocks into 5 investigative items to be completed during the FSP 2016-17 and the exploration is in progress.

Iron Ore investigation by GSI under MoU for establishment of integrated Steel Plant at Khammam as per AP Reorganization Act 2014

  • Ministry of Steel, Government of India constituted the Task Force to review the progress for setting up of Steel Plant in Telangana State. In the 4th Task Force meeting held on 18.03.2016 at New Delhi it was decided that, after survey report on availability of Iron Ore, the Task Force will consider the matter for further action. Ministry of Steel, Government of India re-constituted the Task Force and 1st meeting held on 29.11.2016 at 3.00 PM in Steel Room, Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi.
  • To fulfill the outcome of the minutes of the task force meetings, the Dept entered into MoU with GSI to take up the iron ore exploration in the entire Telangana in 11 blocks located in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangel and Khammam Districts. The GSI made 11 blocks into 5 investigative items to be completed during the FP 2016-17.

Auctionable (3) Gap Area Limestone Blocks in Suryapet District

  • The Regional Exploration Commiteet(REC) after series of meetings recommended priority exploration in (3) gap area of Limestone blocks in Pasupulabodu RF(136.00 Ha), Saidulnama RF(167.85 Ha) and Sultanpur RF(136.00 Ha) in Suryapet Forest Division and District. Telangana as prospective auctionable mineral blocks under MMDR Act,2015
  • The Ministry of Mines, Govt of India directed the GSI and MECL to take-up joint involvement for carrying out the survey and investigation by making use of NMET funds and the DM&G, Telanga State to provide necessary support in completing the exploration work
  • The GSI & MECL completed exploration work in all (3) blocks and MECL to take-up joint involvement for carrying out the survey and investigation by making use of NMET funds and the DM&G, Telanaga State to provide necessary support in completing the exploration work
  • All the (3) proposed Limestone blocks are falling within Forest area the MECL could not carry out the exploration upto G2 stage requirement due to the Forest Conservation to.ct 1980. Hence, MECL estimated the resources of Cement Grade Limestone in \n erred Resources (333) category as per the MEMC Rules.
  • The State Government has statutory obligation to conduct at least Genera\ Exp\oration (G2) level to establish indicated mineral resource (332) before proceeding to auction f or gr a nt of mining lease for Fourth Schedule minerals. A.s such , the \ eve\ of exp lo ration(G3) carried-out by the MECL will not satisfy the condition to go ahead tor a uction as per Mineral (Auction) Rules 2015 f or grant of mining \ ease as per Rule 5 of Mineral (Evidence of Mineral Contents) Rules 2015.
  • Therefore, the State Govt.sought relaxation f rom Ministry of Mines, Govt.ofIndia under Rule 8 of Minerals (Evidence of Mineral Content) Ru\ es, 2015 a\so gives the State Government power to relax condition with prior approva\ which states that:
  • "Depending upo n the local geological setup, mode of occurence and nature of mineralization, the State Govt. may, with the previous approval of the Central Govt., relax the exploration norms as specified in Part III of the Schedule, in whole or in part for any mineral or any area" for all the above Proposed (3) forest limestone blocks so as to proceed for Auction of the block for Mining lease instead of Composite License (Prospecting License-cum-Mining License) as per Mineral(Auction) Rules,2015
  • The State Department of Mines & Geology entered into agreement with SBI capitals Limited as Transaction Advisor and MSTC to provide e-platform for online bidding
  • The Geo logical Reports (GRs) received from MECL, Nagpur have been shared with SB1 Capitals Limited for preparatio n of Bid Document duly considering the anticipated relaxation awaited f rom Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India.
  • The SBICapitals Limited on 09.02.2018 conducted " Preliminary Stakeholders Meet• attended by the Ceme nt Unit owners interested in participation for auction process
