  • Mineral Rights vests with the State Government.
  • The Department of Mines and Geology is a ‘Geological and Mineral Resources Administration wing’ of the State Government.
  • The main functions of the Department include Promotional; Regulatory and Mineral Revenue Collections.
  • Promotional work includes mineral investigation, exploration of mineral deposits in coordination with GSI, MECL, dissemination of geological and mineral information of the State, participation in mineral exhibition within and outside State , seminars, workshops etc.
  • Regulation work includes regulation of mineral activity viz., receipt, processing and grant of mineral concessions, extraction, transportation, selling, stocking, trading and curbing of illegal/unauthorized quarrying, mining and transportation of minerals in the State.
  • State Government as an important aspect in regulation of mineral activity, made it mandatory, the mining activity as per the approved quarry plan for all minor minerals including (31) minerals for monitoring of mining/quarrying activity in a safe, scientific and systematic manner for conservation of mineral resources.
  • Stringent action is initiated against illegal mining/quarrying, transportation, possession, stocking of minerals.
  • Department collects mineral revenue and stands 1st in the South India.
  • As per the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act 2015, the Department is collecting District Mineral Fund (DMF) from the leaseholders for the interest, benefit and sustainable development of areas affected by mining or mining related operations.
  • Also collecting State Mineral Exploration Fund (SMET) from the leaseholders for taking up identification, exploration and development of mineral resources in the State.
  • Disseminating geological and mineral information on the mineral resources in the State to promote mineral based industries and overall development of mineral sector in the State.
